About
Our Teachers
Our teachers provide experiences that stimulate children’s thinking by asking guiding questions and carefully documenting the children’s work. Bigelow offers an excellent child/teacher ratio that meets and often exceeds the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).

Focus on exercise and development
The children play outside daily, weather permitting, in a variety of settings. In addition to our dedicated outdoor play space, Bigelow is walking distance to several playgrounds, as well as the 5.5-acre woods on the grounds of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Field trips are added on occasion with advanced notice.
Music and movement
Resources for kinesthetic learners are incorporated into daily activities. For example, Bigelow offers music enrichment one time per week with professional musicians to engage the children in music and dance.
Meet Our Educators
Our dedicated team brings together decades of child care experience, and a Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy of learning and play.

“I have always loved children! I went to school to become a pediatric nurse, but when I realized nursing was not for me I turned my focus to working with children. As a teacher, I enjoy giving children the freedom to explore new things, and to be as creative and silly as they want in a safe, comfortable space.”

“I am passionate about teaching kids and being a role model for them because they are our future. Because I also speak Spanish, I love teaching the kids different words in Spanish to expand their vocabulary. I am currently getting my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education at Urban College.”

“I came to Bigelow in September of 1989. Bigelow has become a second home to me. Throughout my journey I’ve realized that many things change in this world, but children do not. Children want to be loved, nurtured and cared for, and that’s what I strive for everyday. The sound of children laughing and learning as they play warms my heart.”

“I’ve worked with children for 14 years. In my role as a toddler/preschool teacher, I am very excited to see how the children grow, and how their worlds open up the older they get. A goal of mine is for each child to feel safe and protected in the classroom.”
